During my medical social work lect today...we watched a video about some ppl who had gone thru very traumatic experiences...the above quote is what one of the guys said and it kinda struck me...I'm still trying to find out the essense of the quote...any thots?

It sounds quite poignant. As if yr mission is to love others or even help others feel love but in the process, you might get yr own heart broken.
Maybe to persist in giving love to others, u have to inevitably end up with a broken heart.

I don't think this helps but it kinda reminds me of something that Fr Fred said:
Only a sinner can know the true grace of God cuz only a sinner knows what true forgiveness means...
It's like.. to wanna forgive/love/help, u've gotta go thru it once first.. i dunno..sorry, not very helpful!

lex...it was the guy who lost both legs and an arm in the Vietnam war who said tt...he's now a senator in the US. n kes i think u hit the jackpot...it is what he meant...only those who have had their hearts broken can really give of themselves with love...
it's like how i debated with my fren b4...he said u can only experience true happiness if u know what sadness is...
