You know I really don't like talking to my frens who r Protestants about religion. To be honest, it might be due to my lack of knowledge esp when they suddenly quote a verse from the bible and use it against me. I don't know the bible THAT well. And, I don't want it to affect my frenship with that person. So when ZZ n MW came over the the CSS corner for our presentation prep...they started flipping thru the stuff we had there...then the questions came:
ZZ: Why do u all pray to Mary?
Me: We don't pray or worship her. We ask her to pray for us...to interceed for us.
ZZ: but she's dead.
Me: Yupz she is...but she's in heaven and close to God, with the angels and saints. Why can't we ask them to pray for us...just like how we ask our friends to pray for us?
ZZ: But revelations says that those in heaven only praise God...they don't pray.
*dumbfounded*
shit...does revelations really say tt? I didn't know what to say cos I didnt know if she was right n even if I knew the passage...I wouldnt know if there was another passage that I could use to prove my point. SIgh.
Then thanks to Ian Yeo...I found out that saints do pray n people in heaven do pray too...(taken from KJV Bible)
Rev.8
[1] And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.[2] And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.[3] And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.[4] And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.
It took me awhile b4 I decided to tell ZZ abt it. I just did and we discussed it a bit. At least it ended amicably. Oh well...CAW is coming...*shiver* 3 yrs n I still get the same feeling. Have I grown?

I'm a protestant too. But these things don't matter. No one's going to tell us for sure if the world was created in 6 days or if evolution occured or (new one) Intelligent Design was at work. No one's going to tell us if we were "predestined" or if we *should* pray to mary and the saints.
No point wondering. That's not the point of our faith anyway. The point is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neightbour as yourself."
There.
The bible doesn't tell us what to do, and it is not by any means a scientific pillar of faith. But it tells us who to live by. And that makes all the difference.
hey hannah...i presume u're angie's fren? Yupz i totally agree with ya...at the end of the day it doesnt matter and yes you hit the nail on the head...the greatest commandment that we were given and shd guide all that we do...to love God and our neighbours... :) God bless...
just curious, how did ur conversation with ur frd progressed? And wrt to comments from hannah, danger of such a faith.. is blind faith, admirable though it is.
Heyhey I'm sorry for who's anonymous? :) well it kinda ended there cos my friend decided not to say any more...
